Certification
ENERGY STAR CERTIFICATION 2924 W. Wilson is an Energy Star Certified home. The minimum requirements to achieve this certification are a HERS Iindex of 85 or lower which means the home is 15% more efficient than a typical new home. This home exceeded the minimum requirements by a landslide! An independent energy rater analysis of 2924 W. Wilson resulted in a HERS Index of 50 which means the home is twice as efficient than a typical new home. HERS is the Home Energy Rating System also known as EnergySmart Home Scale. Energy Star is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) that promotes the protection of the environment and costs savings through the practice of energy efficiency. The Energy Star certification is awarded to homes of three stories or less that meet guidelines for energy-efficiency set by the EPA. Qualified homes are inspected and tested by independent Home Energy Raters that verify construction details and efficiency measures are followed. Energy efficient features found in Energy Star qualified homes can include: efficient heating and cooling systems, high performance windows, tight construction and duct systems, efficient products and effective insulation. CHICAGO GREEN HOMES PROGRAM & CERTIFICATION 2924 W. Wilson is certified by the City of Chicago as a Chicago Green Home. The multi-step process to achieving this certification was implemented by the City of Chicago Department of Buildings (DOB) to encourage environmental sensitivity from residential builders, developers and homeowners. T the objective of the Green Home Program is to encourage the use of technologies, practices and materials that will provide greater energy efficiency, produce healthier indoor air, reduce water usage, improve durability and reduce maintenance, reduce waste and pollution, and preserve natural resources.
The DOB Green Permit Program is a checklist-based rating system that provides an incentive to developers and owners by streamlining the permit process timeline for “green” projects. Projects accepted into the Green Permit Program can receive permits in as little as 15 business days. Also, projects that meet the most stringent sustainability guidelines may qualify for a partial waiver of up to $25,000 in consultant code review fees. BUILDER’S CHALLENGE
2924 W. Wilson has qualified for T the Builders Challenge, a program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to promote the new construction of 220,000 energy efficient homes in America by 2012. LEED
2924 W. Wilson has applied for LEED Certification. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a voluntary certification program that recognizes buildings utilizing environmentally friendly and sustainable building practices. The LEED rating system was developed in 1998 by the U.S. Green Building Council to encourage environmental awareness amongst government agencies, architects, engineers, developers and builders.
LEED certification recognizes performance in several areas, including: sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, locations and linkages, awareness and education, indoor environmental quality and innovation in design.
